Barabbas and Barnabas in the New Testament

Barabbas

Barabbas was a prisoner mentioned in all four Gospels who was chosen by the crowd over Jesus Christ to be released during the Passover festival (Matthew 27:15-26, Mark 15:6-15, Luke 23:18-25, John 18:39-40). According to the Gospels, Barabbas had been imprisoned for murder (Matthew 27:16, Mark 15:7).

Barnabas

Barnabas was a Christian leader and preacher (Acts 15:35). He was a native of Cyprus and a Levite (Acts 4:36). Barnabas was a close associate of the apostle Paul, and the two of them worked together on several missionary journeys (Acts 13-14). Barnabas was also present at the Council of Jerusalem, where he helped to resolve a dispute over whether Gentile converts to Christianity should be required to follow the Jewish law (Acts 15).
